16 September 2008. Greenview Environmental, developers of organic waste refinery services and products signed a licensing agreement today with JND Technologies for JND's Tollemache heavyweight shredder.
John Jardine, founder and Chief Executive of Greenview Environmental and Roy Marriott Business Unit Manager of JND Technologies, agreed the deal in which Greenview will manufacture an organic waste Pulveriser based on its own redesign of the Tollemache.
Entrepreneur John Jardine was looking for a method of pulverising organic waste down to 12mm particles when a trip to a scrap metal yard revealed the rusting hulk of a JND Tollemache. Convinced that it could be modified to accept organic waste, John transported the Tollemache to Greenview’s waste processing plant in Suffolk and began to adapt the 35 tonne vertical shaft shredder to cope with wet and bulky vegetation.
The redesigned Tollemache will be available in two sizes with capacities of 25-30 and 40-50 tonnes an hour. The large opening accepts green-bin, civic amenity and catering waste without pre-sorting and pulverises it to 12mm ready for treatment in a Covered System or other in-vessel composting system.
Shredders are a major bottleneck in organic waste management. Most of the shredders currently used run on oil, are noisy, and are prone to breakdown whenever a stray piece of metal gets into the system. A major benefit of the Tollemache over other shredders is its resilience and quietness. The Greenview-adapted Tollemache runs on electricity that can be produced on-site from biogas.
Roy Marriott JND said: “The design of the Tollemache was revolutionary in the early sixties and its resurgence with the developments made by Greenview will greatly benefit the organics processing industry".
John Jardine Greenview comments: “The shredder has been the weakest link until now. JND Technologies has a strong reputation for engineering solutions in thermal processing and size reduction, and the modified Tollemache provides a heavy-weight answer to an intractable industry problem.”
The Greenview Tollemache will be manufactured by Greenview and will be available from early 2009.

About Greenview Environmental
Greenview is currently the UK's largest tonnage, independent organics refinement group with technology processing in excess of 200,000 tonnes of waste each year. As multi-waste stream processors, Greenview recycle a wide range of waste grades using their innovative Covered Systems in-vessel composting and aeration technology, regenerating the waste and turning it into high quality composts and bio-fuels such as methane, biomass and mulch. Greenview’s compost products are marketed under the “County Mulch” brand range used to enhance gardens, premiership football pitches and open championships golf courses throughout the UK. www.greenviewgroup.co.uk
